12 soldiers injured in S. Philippine blast

Xinhua, December 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

Twelve soldiers were wounded Sunday when conducting a clearing operation after capturing a camp of terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in southern Philippine province of Basilan, local military said.

Army Major Filemon Tan, spokesman of the military's Western Mindanao Command, said the government troops triggered an improvised explosive device left by the fleeing bandits.

The clearing operation followed after the soldiers captured an ASG encampment, about 300 meters long and 100 meters wide, in Macalang village, Al Barka town.

The military launched a weeklong focused operation against the Abu Sayyaf bandits on December 14 after getting information that the militants were in the area.

At least 26 bandits were killed during the operation. Endit
