Myanmar's new government will merge some ministries for more effective run but would not sack employees recklessly, local media quoted chairperson of the election-winning opposition party Aung San Suu Kyi as saying Friday.
Meeting with staff of the Office of the Parliament, Suu Kyi comforted the staff, urging them to upgrade their qualification by being trained to be a skilled government employee.
There are 39 ministries in the current government with more than 90 ministers and deputy ministers.
Suu Kyi and current parliament speaker U Shwe Mann on Thursday made a joint inspection of the parliament's arrangement to accommodate the incoming MP freshers for the next term of the parliament scheduled to start next February after the current parliament term expires on Jan. 30.
The formation of the new government would follow in March.
Meanwhile, the first coordination meeting on systematic power transfer, headed by Suu Kyi, was held in Nay Pyi Taw Wednesday, discussing matters related to continued implementation of power transfer preparatory work.
After NLD won an absolute majority of the parliamentary seats in the Nov.8 general election, government leadership, the military and the parliament respectively voice support of NLD for smooth power transfer. Endit
