Israeli troops kill Palestinian in West Bank

Israeli forces said Thursday they shot dead a Palestinian teen who tried to stab a soldier in the West Bank, the latest in a three-month wave of Israeli-Palestinian violence.
A military spokesperson said that troops in the Palestinian village of Huwwarah, south of Nablus, noticed a "suspect" and approached him "in order to question him." The youth then "ran towards the forces, with a knife in hand," said the spokesperson.
The troops opened fire at the suspect, killing him at the spot, said the spokesperson.
The violence started in mid-September in East Jerusalem, triggered by increasing visits of far-right Israelis to the al-Aqsa mosque compound, a site holy to both Muslims and Jews. It then quickly spread throughout the West Bank, Israel, and the Gaza Strip.
At least 118 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli security forces, while 19 Israelis have been killed in Palestinian attacks, mainly stabbing and ramming attacks. Endit
