Hangzhou Greentown signs former S. Korean national coach

Chinese Super League side Hangzhou Greentown on Thursday officially named former South Korean national team coach Hong Myung-Bo as its head coach.

The former S. Korean soccer legend accepted a two-year agreement with Greentown, but the club did not reveal the details of the contract.

Hong replaced Yang Ji who was brought in as a caretaker boss after Philippe Troussier was sacked in the middle of last season.

The 47-year-old Hong is the first S. Korean playing four consecutive World Cup games, and winning the tournament's Bronze Ball awards in 2002. He was also the only S. Korean named as one of the best 100 players in the world when FIFA celebrated its centenary anniversary, and retired at the age of 35 in Los Angeles.

Among his feats, Hong guided S. Korea to capture the bronze in the 2012 Olympics in London, becoming the second Asian country to get on the Olympic soccer medals podium since Japan won the bronze in 1986 in Mexico.

He began to coach South Korean national team in 2013, and resigned later due to poor performance which sparked discontent among fans at home. Endi
