6 insurgents killed in fresh Afghan operations

Xinhua, December 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

About six Taliban militants have been killed in fresh military operations within the last 24 hours, said the Afghan Interior Ministry on Thursday morning.

"Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) carried out operations to clean some areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan. The operations were conducted in Nangarhar, Takhar, Kunduz, Faryab, Balkh, Uruzgan, Khost and Helmand provinces. As a result six armed insurgents were killed and six others were wounded over the last 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement.

The ANSF also discovered and confiscated light and heavy rounds ammunition, according to the statement.

The statement did not disclose if there were any casualties on the side of security forces.

The Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants recently as the Taliban militant group has been attempting to take territory and consolidate its positions ahead of winter in the Central Asian country.

The Taliban has yet to make comments. Enditem
