Albania, Georgia sign MOU on defense

Albanian Minister of Defense Mimi Kodheli and his Georgian counterpart Tinatin Khidasheli Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on defense during the latter's official visit here.

Kodheli confirmed the support of Albania for Georgia on its path to Euro-Atlantic integration at a press conference.

Kodheli also reaffirmed the position of the Albanian government, which has consistently objected the recognition by some countries of the "independence" of the self-proclaimed South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Furthermore, focusing on the challenges of the fight against terrorism, Khidasheli stressed that "Georgia expresses its readiness to be part of these joint efforts."

Khidasheli held also a meeting with the Albanian Speaker of the Parliament, Ilir Meta, who reiterated Albania's support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia and its aspirations for Euro-Atlantic integration, emphasizing that it contributes to peace, stability and security in the Caucasus.

During the meeting, it was agreed to accelerate the process of signing bilateral agreements and intensify efforts to increase trade flows and economic cooperation between the two countries. Enditem
