Croatia central bank forecasts GDP growth for 2016 to 1.8 pct

Xinhua, December 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Croatia's economic growth in 2016 could reach 1.8 percent as the results of increase of the export and consumption, the Croatian National Bank (HNB) predicted on Wednesday.

This prediction reflected the continued recovery of the labor market, slower deleveraging and stronger consumer optimism, HNB said.

The growth in 2015 would stand 1.7 percent, higher than earlier prediction of 1.2 percent, it said.

"In the fourth quarter this year we expect a relatively high GDP growth of 2.3 percent and the main factor of that growth, as until now, is the growth in the export of goods and services and personal consumption," HNB governor Boris Vujcic said.

The HNB forecast that the general government deficit could drop to 5 percent of GDP this year from 5.6 percent in 2014, while the general government debt could reach 86.5 percent of GDP at the end of this year. Endit
