Chinese envoy calls for steady implementation of Iran nuclear deal

Xinhua, December 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations Wang Min on Tuesday called on parties concerned to promote steady implementation of the Iranian nuclear agreement.

At a Security Council meeting, Wang said that as the start of the implementation of the agreement fast approaches, the work that is related to the Iranian nuclear issue at the Security Council will also enter a new stage.

In July, the Security Council endorsed the agreement between Iran and major world powers on Iranian nuclear issues in a unanimously adopted resolution, kicking off a process to lift UN sanctions on Iran.

The agreement, Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), clinched on July 14 between Iran and the six powers of Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States, is expected to put Iran on the path of sanction relief but more strict limits on its nuclear program.

"The Iranian nuclear question is itself extremely complicated and the implementation of the JCPOA has many issues to attain to with no precedent to follow," said Wang.

"China hopes that all the relevant parties will try and meet each other halfway, uphold the principles of synchronization and reciprocity, accommodate each other's concerns and ensure fairness and balance," he said.

Wang also said the Security Council should prepare well in terms of related council mechanisms, procedures and responsibilities so as to ensure the council's authority and smooth implementation of the resolution.

"The council should carry out its work in a balanced and objective manner, ensure the comprehensive implementation of the resolution, properly tackle sensitive issues and lend support to the implementation of the JCPOA," he said.

"China will closely engage with other parties and contribute to promoting the smooth implementation of the JCPOA," he added. Endi
