Danish police lower alert level against terror threat

Xinhua, December 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Danish police have reduced their internal alert level from the second highest by one notch, it was announced Tuesday.

Based on an overall assessment of the security situation in Denmark, the police's internal alert level was reduced from a "markedly heightened level of preparedness" to a "heightened level of preparedness," according to a police press release.

"We are closely following the situation and, after an overall assessment including discussions with the police intelligence, we believe that the police can handle the current situation with a heightened level of preparedness as before Nov. 17," said Chief Police Inspector Joern Aabye.

He added that the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET) maintained the assessment of the terror threat against Denmark as "serious."

The alert was raised in November in wake of terror attacks in Paris that killed 130 people. It was the first time that Danish police have increased the alert to the second-highest level. Endit
