6 militants killed in military airstrike in NW Pakistan

Xinhua, December 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least six militants were killed in an air strike by the Pakistani military in the country's northwest tribal area of Khyber Agency on Tuesday, local media reported.

Urdu TV channel Dunya reported that the jets of Pakistan Air Force pounded several hideouts of suspected militants in Tirah Valley area of Khyber Agency, a semi-autonomous tribal area along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

The strike also left eight militants injured, said the report.

Identities of the killed militants have not been revealed by the military, but the area is considered to be the hot bed of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan activity.

Launched in October last year, the Khyber Operation aims at the eradication of the militancy from the Khyber Agency.

According to local media tally, over 500 militants have been killed and more than 400 surrendered in the operation which was conducted in two phases -- operation Khyber 1 and operation Khyber 2. Enditem
