Corruption behind safety accidents apply harsher penalites: authority
Xinhua, December 15, 2015 Adjust font size:
Corruption that leads to safety accidents should apply harsher penalties, a new judicial interpretation on the crime of endangering production safety said
The judicial interpretation was released on Tuesday by the Supreme People's Court (SPC) and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP).
If state employees illegally invest in or hold stocks of enterprises which commit the crime of endangering production safety, or if corruption or bribe-taking are found directly linked with safety accidents, they should be given harsh penalties, it said.
They will also be subject to combined punishment for embezzlement, taking bribes and endangering production safety, according to an investigation.
Many devastating production safety accidents have been related to official corruption or dereliction of duty, Shen Liang, an SPC official, said.
Therefore, apart from punishing people directly responsible for safety accidents, judicial organs should give no less harsh punishments to corrupt offenders involved, Shen said.
According to official statistics, from 2012 to 2014, courts at all levels have completed trials of 5,707 cases of endangering production safety. Endi
