Afghan spy agency discovers weapon cache in Logar

The Afghan National Directorate for Security (NDS), the country's national spy agency, has discovered a weapon cache in eastern Logar province, a statement of the entity released here on Tuesday said.

"The personnel of NDS have found a huge weapons and ammunition cache after a special operation in Azra district of (eastern) Logar province," the statement said.

Two heavy machine guns, 15 rounds of RPG-7 rockets, six rounds of medium rocket, six hand grenades, a handful of gun powder and explosive materials were among other items seized after the raid, the statement said, without mentioning the exact date of the operation.

The weapons belonged to Taliban militant group, according to the statement.

Some 104 mortar's fuse and 30 rocket's fuse were also recovered from the cache, the statement said, adding that thousands rounds of bullets of different weapons were found from the cache in the province, some 60 km south of Kabul.

The Afghan security forces has beefed up security operations against militants recently as the Taliban militant group has been attempting to take territory and consolidate its positions ahead of winter in the Central Asian country.

The Taliban has yet to make comments. Enditem
