Xinhua, December 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

An earthquake of 4.2 magnitude hit the eastern Indian states of Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal Tuesday, a senior official said.

"The mild quake jolted Jharkhand and tremors were felt in the neighboring states of Bihar and West Bengal in the morning. The tremors lasted for a few seconds," he said on condition of anonymity.

However, there have been no reports of any casualty or any major damage to property, he said.

Senior disaster management officials have been keeping a close tab on the situation so as to react in case of any untoward development, the official added. Endit
