Turkish Airline to open direct flight between Madagascar and Turkey

Xinhua, December 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Turkish Airline will open its first direct flight linking Madagascar's capital Antananarivo to Turkey's biggest city Istanbul on Tuesday, officials say.

"Turkish Airline will do three flights a week until February 2016, then four flights a week from February 2016," Madagascar's Minister of Tourism, Transport and Meteorology, Ulrich Andriantiana, said on Monday.

The direct flight would promote tourism sector in Madagascar and support the economic development, the minister said.

Turkish Ambassador to Madagascar Volkan Turk Vural said that the flight would begin with Airbus A330-300 and A340-300.

The transaction volume between the two countries was valued at over 100 million U.S dollars and the direct line would be beneficial for both countries, the ambassador said.

Diplomatic relations between Turkey and Madagascar are still underdeveloped. Turkey opened its embassy in Madagascar in 2010, while Madagascar's embassy in Rome is also accredited to Turkey. Endit
