Chinese Navy fleet visits Pearl Harbor

Xinhua, December 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

A Chinese Navy fleet arrived here on Sunday morning for a five-day friendly visit.

The fleet consists of the destroyer Jinan, the frigate Yiyang and the comprehensive supply ship Qiandaohu. Pearl Harbor is the second stop of its U.S.tour, and it made its first stop at the U.S. Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville on the east coast in early November.

Rear Admiral John Fuller, commander of Navy Region Hawaii and Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific, together with other U.S. naval officials, local Chinese representatives and Chinese diplomats in the United States, attended the welcoming ceremony held upon the fleet's arrival.

During the fleet's stay here, the U.S. navy and the Chinese fleet will hold receptions for each other. Friendly sports activities, such as basketball and soccer games, will be held between the two sides.

The Chinese naval fleet officials will also visit the Arizona Memorial located several hundred meters away from their ships in the harbor to pay their tribute to the over 1,100 U.S. sailors and Marines killed on the USS Arizona when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in World War II. Endi
