Philippines vows to do its share in attainment of Paris climate change deal

The Philippines welcomed Sunday the agreement reached in Paris on climate change mitigation as it vowed to do its own share.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. told a radio interview that the Paris agreement addresses the situation of climate vulnerable countries like the Philippines.

"The Philippines will fulfill its intended nationally determined contribution (INDC), committing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions conditionally by 70 percent by 2030 in solidarity with other nations that will provide support in terms of finance, technology and capacity building," he said.

Coloma said the Philippine government will also continually engage its people in the spirit of cooperation in building disaster resilient communities.

Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III flew to Paris, France during the start of the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) early this month to express the country's support on how to mitigate the effects of climate change.

The broad based agreement was reached by 196 countries after almost two weeks of painstaking consensus building. Endit
