Platini loses appeal as CAS upholds suspension

Xinhua, December 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Suspended UEFA president Michel Platini lost his appeal against a provisional 90-day suspension when the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) upheld the ruling by FIFA on Friday.

The ruling, which came after a hearing in Lausanne on Tuesday, means that Platini cannot attend Euro 2016 draw in Paris on Saturday.

The CAS Panel also emphasized that, even if the ban were lifted at this time, such measure would not give any guarantee to Platini that the FIFA ad hoc electoral committee would validate his candidature for the FIFA presidential election before Jan. 5, 2016.

Platini has been questioned on accepting two million Swiss francs (about 2 million U.S. dollars) from FIFA in 2011 for the work did a decade earlier.

Platini and Blatter face possible life bans before the FIFA Ethics Committee at the governing body's headquarters in Zurich next week.  Endi
