Groin injury makes Neymar major doubt for World Club Championships

Xinhua, December 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

FC Barcelona striker Neymar is a major doubt for the World Club Championships which will be held in Japan the coming week after the club confirmed he has suffered a torn muscle in his groin.

Neymar suffered the injury in the training session prior to Wednesday's 1-1 draw in the Champions League away to Bayer Leverkusen and TV images showed him walking in obvious pain.

The injury came just days after he was named as the best player in Spain's BBVA Primera Liga for the month of November, with five league goals, taking his total to 14 for the current campaign.

There is no change he will take part in this Saturday's Spanish league tie at home to Deportivo la Coruna, but with Barca due to play the semi-final of the World Club Championship in Japan in a week's time on December 17th and a possible final just three days later, the focus is on now working to see if he can recover in time for those matches, or at least the final.

With most groin injuries needing longer than that in order to clear up, at the moment, it does not look as if time is on Neymar's side and Barca will probably look for their fifth trophy of 2015 without one of their most in-form and emblematic players. Endit
