UN mission condemns Taliban attack on Afghan Kandahar airport

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has strongly condemned the Taliban's attack on Kandahar Airport in south Afghanistan on Tuesday night, a statement of the entity released here on Thursday said.

The attack reportedly claimed the lives of 39 civilians, including four children, and injured at least 23 civilians,

In the deadly attack which begun on Tuesday night and continued until Wednesday afternoon, scores of residential houses and shops nearby were also damaged.

The UN mission in the statement also expresses its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery of the injured.

According to local officials, majority of the victims are innocent civilians. All the nine attackers were also killed during the gun battle. Enditem
