Toyota Motor launches new Prius hybrid in Japan

Xinhua, December 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Toyota Motor Corp. on Wednesday unveiled its all-new Prius hybrid model that has become a global favorite for customers prioritizing fuel efficiency, space and performance.

The Japanese top automaker has overhauled the revolutionary car's hybrid energy train system, marking the first significant changes to the model in more than six years, by reducing the size of its fuel- and electric-powered motor system and giving the fourth-generation Prius a more aerodynamic frame to further enhance its fuel efficiency.

The Aichi-based automaker also unrolled a four-wheel drive version of the hybrid car, aiming to pitch the new model in regions that see snowfall to the extent that enhanced traction is a necessity.

The new Prius was the first Toyota model to run off the lines under Toyota's New Global Architecture blueprint that, through the sharing of parts between different models under the brand, will purportedly result in significant savings for the automaker.

With a monthly domestic sales target of 12,000 units, Toyota has priced its new Prius between 2.4 and 3.4 million yen (between 19,500 to 27,700 U.S. dollars), and has stated the new model can run for 40.8 kilometers on a single liter of gasoline. Enditem
