Roundup: Singapore stocks end down 0.52 pct

Singapore shares closed 0.52 percent lower on Wednesday, after oil prices took another tumble and U.S. stocks suffered another day of losses overnight.

Brent crude futures fell below 40 U.S. dollars per barrel in U.S. trading hours Tuesday.

Singapore's benchmark Straits Times Index fell 14.84 points to 2,861.19 points. Trading volume was 818 million shares worth 675 million Singapore dollars. Decliners outnumbered advancers 231 to 171, while 526 stocks did not move.

Ascendas REIT halted trading on Wednesday. It said it will privately place some of the equity, and some will be distributed through a preferential offering to raise over 400 million Singapore dollars.

The cash will partly fund the acquisition of a business property at eastern part of Singapore which is 97.1 percent occupied with high quality tenants. The acquisition is expected to generate a net property income yield of about 5.9 percent to 6 percent in the first year of ownership.

SinCap Group dropped 4.1 percent to 7 Singapore cents. The alumina and coal trader said it plans to place 91.4 million shares at 6 Singapore cents per share, which is at nearly 18 percent below its last traded price.

Among the top gainers, Dairy Farm International rose 1.9 percent to 5.93 U.S. dollars, whereas Jardine Cycle and Carriage became one of the top losers by falling 2.9 percent to 34.62 Singapore dollars. (1 U.S. dollar equals 1.41 Singapore dollars) Enditem
