Maldives resumes flights to Chennai

Xinhua, December 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Maldives national airline carrier "Maldivian" resumed flights to India's southern city of Chennai on Wednesday after severe floods forced the Chennai International Airport to shut down last week.

An airline spokesman said that priority was being given to passengers who had made bookings before the suspension and efforts were ongoing to operate additional flights between Maldives and Chennai.

Flights to Chennai were suspended last week as severe rains caused flooding in and around the Chennai airport, with the runway also being flooded.

Although the airport became fully operational from Tuesday, the flood ravaged city is struggling to return to normalcy with partial restoration of telecommunication, air and train services. Endit
