U.S. consulate in Istanbul cancels services due to possible security threat

Xinhua, December 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

The U.S. Consulate General here canceled consular services for Wednesday due to a possible security threat.

"Due to information about a possible security threat against the U.S. consulate general in Istanbul, the consulate will open with limited staff and services on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015," said a message issued on the website of the Overseas Security Advisory Council under the U.S. State Department.

The warning, the second since Saturday, said public services including visa appointments for Wednesday are canceled.

It again advised U.S. citizens to "maintain a high level of vigilance, be aware of local events, and take the appropriate steps to bolster your personal security."

Two assailants opened fire at the U.S. consulate building in August but there were no casualties.

The U.S. diplomatic outposts in the Turkish cities of Ankara, Adana and Izmir will operate as usual, the message said. Endi
