The international community has to stand united to fight against terrorism, which is posing a serious threat to countries, regions and the world, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said here Wednesday.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the 8th Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), the prime minister said recent incidents including Paris attacks, Russian plane crash in Egypt, and U.S. California shooting, reassured that terrorist and extremist movements remained a serious threat to security and stability in the world.
He said that currently separate anti-terrorism actions taken by each country and country-and-country disputes have become an obstacle to anti-terrorism efforts.
Hun Sen said there is no ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) group in Cambodia; however, the country has to be on high vigilance to avert the group from using Cambodia as a safe shelter to attack other countries.
The 8th APA, running from Wednesday to Friday, brought together parliamentary representatives of 18 countries. It was held under the theme "Promoting Peace, Reconciliation and Dialogue in Asia."
APA's Acting Secretary General Masoud Islami said climate change and environmental degradation, together with extreme violence, terror, and foreign occupation, are ravaging through the fundamentals of security and stability in important parts of Asia.
Cambodian National Assembly President Heng Samrin said that during the 3-day assembly, the Asian parliamentary leaders would discuss and exchange views on building a prosperous and harmonious Asian region. Enditem
