Xinhua, December 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indian police have booked a Russian diplomat for assaulting a cop following an accident with a biker in the national capital in the wee hours of Wednesday.

"The accident happened at 1.40 a.m. (local time). The diplomat who was drunk and driving a car hit a police barricade in south Delhi and then rammed into a bike," a senior police official said.

The biker sustained injuries in the accident and when a policeman deployed at the barricade tried to intervene, the Russian diplomat punched him on his face, he said on condition of anonymity.

"We have pressed charges against the diplomat in the road rage case, but he has not been arrested yet. The Russian Embassy has been informed about the incident," the official said.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, he added. Endit
