Morocco arrests two IS-linked suspects

Xinhua, December 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Morocco arrested two suspects with links to the Islamic State (IS) on Tuesday.

In the eastern city of Berkane the police arrested a suspect who pledged allegiance to the IS and was planning to carry out a terrorist attack in coordination with IS leaders in Iraq and Syria.

In another operation, police arrested a 19-year-old student for distributing publications propagating IS extremist ideology in the suburb of the western city of Marrakesh.

The Interior Ministry said the suspects would be sent to court once interrogations end.

According to the Moroccan government, police have busted some 140 terrorist cells since 2002 and successfully foiled hundreds of terrorist plans. More than 2,200 individuals have been arrested. Endit
