EFSD's 2 bln USD loan for Belarus pending

Xinhua, December 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Council of the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD) has not made any decision on a loan of 2 billion U.S. dollars to Belarus, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said on Tuesday.

The decision on the loan for Belarus has not been made yet, Siluanov said after a meeting of the council.

The official stressed that the EFSD would like to determine a larger number of structural measures before giving the first tranche of the loan -- 0.5 billion U.S. dollars.

Siluanov said that the EFSD would like to see "concrete results from the implementation of the program of economic development measures, which had been incorporated in the plan of action on receipt of the loan."

The EFSD, instituted by the governments of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia, is tasked with providing assistance to the member states in overcoming consequences of the global financial crisis, ensuring their economic and financial stability, and supporting the integration process in the region.
