Afghan military kills 16 insurgents: government

The Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) have killed 16 suspected Taliban insurgents across the country since early Sunday, the country's Interior Ministry said on Monday morning.

"In past 24 hours, the ANSF conducted several anti-terrorism operations to clear some of the areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan, killing 16 armed insurgents and detaining five others," the ministry said in a statement providing daily operational updates.

The raids were launched in Nangarhar, Samangan, Takhar, Kunduz, Faryab, Balkh, Kandahar, Zabul, Ghazni, Paktika, Paktia and Helmand provinces, according to the statement.

The joint forces also discovered and confiscated rounds of light and heavy ammunition, the statement said.

Bu the it did not mention if there were any casualties on the side of the security forces.

The Afghan security forces has beefed up security operations against militants recently as the Taliban militant group has been attempting to take territory and consolidate its positions ahead of winter in the Central Asian country.

The Taliban has yet to make comments. Enditem
