Xinhua, December 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Eight people, including two children, died after a van was crushed by a heavy truck that overturned on a highway in south China's Guangdong Province Friday, the local government said on Saturday.

The accident happened at 3:30 p.m. on a provincial highway in Yangchun City, the city's public security bureau said in a press release.

It said the truck was carrying cement from the neighboring Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and overturned at a crossing in Yangchun, crushing a van that was carrying nine people. The van had a license plate from Shenzhen.

Only one person in the van survived with injuries.

The truck driver was detained by police.

The cause of the accident was still under investigation. Endi
