The sixth Cambodian International Film Festival (CIFF) kicked off here on Friday evening, aimed to promote the cinema industry in the country, officials said.
More than 130 films from 34 countries and regions will be shown at nine screening venues in Phnom Penh capital until Dec. 10, said Cedric Eloy, chief executive of the Cambodia Film Commission, which organized the festival.
"The program highlights movies made in or about Cambodia and also a selection of films from the world in diverse formats -- short and feature films, documentaries and animation," he said at the opening ceremony.
Held at the capital's Chaktomuk Theater, the opening ceremony was presided over by Cambodian Princess Norodom Bopha Devi and Culture and Fine Arts Secretary of State Som Sokun, and was attended by some 800 national and international guests.
"The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts considers the festival as a means to promote and support Cambodia's film industry," said Som Sokun.
"The festival will provide a good opportunity for national and international filmmakers and film technicians to share experience and to improve their film skills," he said. Enditem
