Italy's Giovinco named MLS MVP

Major League Soccer (MLS) announced Thursday that Toronto FC striker Sebastian Giovinco has been named the 2015 MLS Most Valuable Player.

The 28-year-old Italian star joined Toronto FC from Juventus on February 5. In 33 appearances, Giovinco amassed stunning 22 goals and 16 assists, leading Toronto to its first playoff appearance.

Giovinco set a number of club records at Toronto FC. He broke a 15-year-old MLS single-season record for shots in a season (181).The previous record was held by Mamadou Diallo with 152 (2000). He also became the first player in club history to record two hat-tricks in MLS league play.

Giovinco has captured the MLS Golden Boot and newcomer of the year awards and was voted to the MLS's Best 11. Endi
