Chinese integrated circuit industry expands despite slowdown

Xinhua, December 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

The growth of the integrated circuit industry in China accelerated despite the economic slowdown, with sales surging and technology continuing to develop.

Total sales rose 19.5 percent year on year to hit 254 billion yuan (40 billion U.S. dollars) in the first three quarters, according to Huai Jinpeng, vice minister of Industry and Information Technology. The design arm of the sector expanded 26.1 percent.

Besides sales rise, the industry also sees upgraded technologies such as better-performing chips.

"The integrated circuit industry in China has prepared itself for international competition and the fast development of the IT industry," said Huai.

Innovative technology such as cloud computing, big data, and the Internet of Things are bringing opportunities to the sector but challenges remain as China still lacks talent in the field, Huai said. Endi
