Texas governor meets with senior Cuban officials to foster business ties

Xinhua, December 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Governor of the U.S. state of Texas Greg Abbott held talks in Havana on Wednesday with Cuban leaders in an efforts to forge business ties.

He discussed with Cuban Vice President Ricardo Cabrisas and Minister of Foreign Trade and Investments Rodrigo Malmierca respectively American entrepreneurs' interest to invest in the island country and increase bilateral trade, as well as the difficulties resulted from the economic blockade imposed by Washington on Havana since 1962, said a statement from the Cuban government.

Abbott and his delegation of businessmen arrived in Cuba on Monday in a trip aimed at boosting economic ties between Havana and Texas. This is the third trip by a U.S. governor to Cuba since the beginning of the process to restore relations between the two countries in December 2014.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo visited Cuba in April, and his counterpart from Arkansas Asa Hutchinson came in September, with both seeking to be early birds in forging closer commercial ties with Cuba. Endi
