Volvo unveils premium sedan model in Sweden

Xinhua, December 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Swedish automaker Volvo Cars on Wednesday presented a high-end sedan model to stake its claim in the premium segment of the market.

The Volvo S90 will have a semi-autonomous driving feature that helps align the car with lane markings and without having to follow another car, the company said in a statement.

"We are now clearly and firmly in the game," Volvo Cars CEO Hakan Samuelsson said of his company's appeal to higher-tier sedan customers.

Samuelsson said the 11 million U.S. dollars his company had spent on the project over the past five years would result in "a resurgent and relevant Volvo Cars brand."

Presented in the western Swedish city of Gothenburg, the S90 model comes with a T8 hybrid motor that uses electricity to power the back wheels, daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter reported.

The new sedan is to be unveiled to the public in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit as a complement to the SUV and estate models Volvo has become best known for.

Volvo, which has been owned by Chinese automaker Geely since 2010, employs 26,000 people worldwide. Endit
