Xinhua, December 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 10 people, including a minor, were killed when their van plunged into a river in Pakistan's northwestern Chitral valley on Wednesday, local media reported.

According to the local Urdu TV Channel Samaa, the incident took place when a passenger van fell into the Chitral River near the Baeech area of Chitral, a district in the country's northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The vehicle with 20 passengers on board was traveling from Garam Chashma to Chitral district when it veered off the road.

Rescue teams and local people rushed to the site and it took them hours to pull out the bodies from the river.

Efforts are still underway to recover the remaining people, however, the flow of water is reportedly creating hurdles in the rescue operation.

According to reports, eight of the victims belong to same family and they were going back to home after attending a family function.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. Enditem
