Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar's Defense Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing agreed with the election-winning opposition party leader Aung San Suu Kyi Wednesday afternoon to cooperate and work for the interest of the country.

Min Aung Hlaing's meeting with Suu Kyi, chairperson of the National League for Democracy (NLD), took place in Nay Pyi Taw's Army Headquarters as a response to the call by Suu Kyi in her separate letter to the defense chief on Nov. 11 after her party won a landslide victory in the Nov. 8 general election.

Their talks focused on coordination and cooperation on working for the stability and tranquility, law enforcement, national consolidation and national development while placing emphasis on people's aspiration, said a statement of the military following the talks.

The meeting followed that between President U Thein Sein and Suu Kyi on the same day in which the pair had discussions on establishment of non-traditional ever good systematic and peaceful power transfer.

Earlier, Suu Kyi had also met with U Shwe Mann, speaker of the Union Parliament and House of Representatives (Lower House) on Nov. 19 for a dialogue related to parliamentary transition.

The present term of the parliament is to expire on Jan. 31, 2016 and to be taken over by the newly-elected parliament and a new government is to be formed in February with presidential run taking place in accordance with the constitution.

Election result showed that the NLD won the absolute majority of the parliamentary seats which is strong enough to form a government independently under the constitution and name the president and two vice presidents.

Suu Kyi herself also won as a representative re-elected to the House of Representatives (Lower House) of the next parliament. Endit
