Global auto sales by S. Korean carmakers hit 11-month high

Global auto sales by five South Korean carmakers hit the largest in 11 months due to brisk sales especially at home, industry data showed Tuesday.

Global car sales by Hyundai, Kia, GM Korea, Renault Samsung and Ssangyong reached 822,481 units in November, up 5 percent from a year earlier. The November figure marked the largest monthly sale since December last year.

Auto sales in the domestic market jumped 11.6 percent from a year earlier to 141,711 vehicles in November, while overseas sales increased 3.7 percent to 680,770 units.

Top automaker Hyundai Motor and its affiliate Kia Motors led the brisk car sales.

Hyundai's global auto sales increased 4.9 percent from a year earlier to 451,838 units in November, with sales of 65,166 vehicles at home and 386,672 units overseas.

Global car sales by Kia advanced 6.8 percent to 286,303 units in November on a yearly basis, marking the biggest monthly sale in the company's history.

Ssangyong sold 9,062 cars at home and exported 3,353 vehicles last month on the back of popularity of its Tivoli SUV model. Endit
