U.S. Congress sets date for Obama's final State of the Union address

Xinhua, December 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

U.S. Speaker of the House of Representatives Paul Ryan on Monday invited President Barack Obama to deliver his final State of the Union address before Congress on Jan. 12, 2016.

"As we look ahead to the new year, we have both an opportunity and an obligation to find common ground to advance the nation's interests at home and abroad," said Ryan in a letter to Obama. "We also owe it to the American people to present solutions that address the challenges they face."

It is a tradition in the United States that the State of the Union is typically an annual address presented by the president of the United States to a joint session of the U.S. Congress on conditions of the country as well as the legislative agenda of the administration. Endit
