Laos' Nam Khan 2 Hydropower project construction completed

The Nam Khan 2 Hydropower project, which was constructed by Power Construction Corporation of China, has completed for handover on Saturday in Lao northern Luang Prabang province.

The Nam Khan 2 hydropower plant, which has total installed capacity of 130 MW, has started generating electricity for Luang Prabang province and other northern localities in Laos.

Lao Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad, Minister of Energy and Mines Khammany Inthilath and other government and provincial officials, as well as General Manager of Power Construction Corporation of China Sun Hongshui attended the handover ceremony held in Luang Prabang.

Addressing the ceremony, Lao Minister of Energy and Mines Khammany Inthilath said the Nam Khan 2 Hydropower plant is expected to help ease power tension in Luang Prabang and other northern localities in the country, and improve the living and production conditions of local people.

It is also a project marking the 60th anniversary of Lao People's Revolutionary Party and 40th anniversary of Lao People's Democratic Republic, as well as contributing to the friendship between Laos and China.

Sun Hongshui, for his part, said in the past years, the Power Construction Corporation of China has invested and constructed many hydropower plants in Laos, which contributed not only to promoting the sustainable development of Lao economy, but also to providing power supports for the coming construction of China-Laos railway.

The Nam Khan 2 Hydropower project has been constructed by the Sinohydro Bureau 10 Co, Ltd. under the Power Construction Corporation of China since March 26, 2011 with total installed capacity of 130 MW and annual electrical generation of 558 GWh. Endit
