Myanmar's opposition - the National League for Democracy (NLD) will tighten party discipline before leading a new parliament.
U Tin Oo, chairman of the Central Committee for Winning the General Election announced the decision here Saturday at a meeting of the party's elected parliament representatives.
The meeting was the first summoned by NLD Chairperson Aung San Suu Kyi three weeks after the election in which the NLD won an absolute majority of the parliamentary seats, strong enough to form a new government independently.
U Tin Oo, also patron of the NLD, delivered the opening speech to the representatives elected from some regions and states including Yangon, Tanintharyi, Mon, Rakhine, Kayin, Bago and Ayeyawaddy.
The meeting between Suu Kyi and the elected parliament representatives continued after U Tin Oo's speech.
The next meeting between Suu Kyi and the party's elected parliament representatives from the remaining regions and states will take place on Dec. 5 in Nay Pyi Taw, according to the NLD.
According to the final result issued by the Union Election Commission, of the 1,150 representatives-elect at three levels in the next term of parliament, the NLD has secured a total of 886 seats or 77.04 percent.
As the majority winning party, the NLD will hold the chairmanship of the lower house and upper house and also has the right to nominate two vice-presidential candidates, with the remaining one to be nominated by the non-elected military representatives.
The elected parliament representatives represent 75 percent at each level of the parliament and the remaining 25 percent are reserved for the non-elected who are directly nominated by the military under the constitution.
The present term of the parliament and government will expire at the end of January and March 2016 respectively.
Presidential run will take place in early February. Enditem
