Indonesia expects fast railway project to boost growth in West Java

Xinhua, November 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indonesia expects a fast railway project linking Jakarta and Bandung, the provincial capital of West Java, to boost local economic growth, an official said Saturday.

"Basically we aim to expand new economy along the transport line between Jakarta and Bandung city, particularly at western part of Bandung," State-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno told Xinhua at Bogor Agriculture Institute.

Soemarno said western Bandung city has huge agriculture production, but people's welfare there is still low.

"We want to spur growth there by building infrastructure. We consider the construction of fast railway project will help it. The facility could help develop industry, housing and other facilities," she said.

So far, many investors have been interested in taking part in projects there, Soemarno said.

China has won the bid to build the 5.5-billion-U.S. dollar railway project there, and the project will be conducted on business to business basis. Enditem
