Albania urges Italy to cut transportation taxes for Albanian businesses

Xinhua, November 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Italy should cut transportation taxes for Albanian businesses which send goods to Italy by trucks, Albanian Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta said on Thursday.

Meta made this call in Italy when meeting with Laura Boldrini, the head of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, to discuss economic collaboration between the two countries and Italian investment in Albania, according to Albanian media.

When entering the Italian territory, Albanian businesses have to pay a weight tax and a circulation tax for every truck of theirs, which together cost 200 euros (212 U.S. dollars) to 300 euros (318 U.S. dollars).

Italy remains Albania's main trading partner and the transportation taxes have been criticized many times by Albanian businesses as a damaging policy for their trade operations. Endi
