Tokyo stocks drop in early trading as geopolitical concerns spark risk off mood

Tokyo stocks lost ground in early trading Wednesday as investors were in a risk averse mood following Turkey shooting down a Russian jet a day earlier.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 85.66 points, or 0.43 percent, from Tuesday to 19,839.23, while the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange fell 8.62 points, or 0.54 percent, to 1,597.32.
