An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale jolted 175 kilometers northwest of Iberia, eastern Peru, at 22:45:37 GMT Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 592.0 km, was initially determined to be at 10.6 degrees south latitude and 71.0 degrees west longitude.
