130 Vietnamese athletes to attend 8th ASEAN Para Games in Singapore

As many as 130 Vietnamese athletes will participate in the eighth ASEAN Para Games in Singapore during Dec. 3-9, according to Vietnam Paralympic Association on Tuesday.

The Vietnamese athletes will compete in nine events, including track and field, swimming, weightlifting, badminton, chess, table tennis, football, boccia, and rowing, Vietnam's state-run news agency quoted Vu The Phiet, general secretary of the association as saying at a press briefing on the event in Vietnam's capital Hanoi.

The delegation sets a target to rank top at the competition, toward conquering the 2016 World Paralympic Games in Brazil, said Phiet.

ASEAN Para Games is a sport event held after every Southeast Asian Games for ASEAN athletes with physical disabilities, with mobility disabilities, visual disabilities, intellectual disabilities, amputees, and those with spastic and cerebral palsy. The games are typically hosted by the same country in the same year where the SEA Games would take place.

There will be 15 sports in the eighth ASEAN Para Games, which is expected to host 3,000 athletes and officials, according to the official website of the event.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Endi
