U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Abu Dhabi for talks on Syria crisis

Xinhua, November 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry arrived here on Monday to hold talks on the developments in the war-torn Syria with some United Arab Emirates (UAE) senior officials, local media reported.

According to the National newspaper, Kerry will meet with his UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed, and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.

Kerry earlier proposed a new initiative to find ways to end the Syrian civil war between the government forces of President Bashar al-Assad and the rebel groups so as to better coordinate the fight against the Islamic State militant group.

Reports said Kerry is working on bringing the Syrian opposition group together at a conference in Riyadh in December.

Earlier in November, the five permanent member of UN Security council -- the United States, Russia, China, France and Germany -- and Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey held talks in Vienna on Syria crisis, where they agree to hold formal talks between Assad government and the rebels by January 1.
