Taylor Swift and One Direction, a pop boy band, were big winners at the awards ceremony of the 2015 American Music Awards (AMAs) held at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday night.
Swift didn't show up at the night performance as she is shooting a music video outside of the country. She won Song of the Year for "Blank Space," Favorite Pop/Rock Album for "1989" and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist, which made her AMA awards total 19.
One Direction grabbed two AMA awards, that is, Artist of the Year and Favorite Pop/Rock Duo or Group.
"This is absolutely incredible to receive these awards now two years in a row. Thank you so much. This is the testament how incredible our fans are. You have been great with us this year," said One Direction.
Nicki Minaj won two awards, Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Female Artist and Album, and The Weekend also won two awards, Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist and Album.
The Favorite Male and Female Artist in Pop and Rock went to Ed Sheeran and Ariana Grande respectively.
"I want to just thank you, the fans, for allowing me to change and have a different voice every time I come back out (with a new album)," Minaj said. She also encouraged her fans by saying "please find your voice and find your purpose before it's too late. Love you."
The music feast also had fantastic live shows, including a special "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" music performance and Celine Dion's heartfelt tribute to Paris in the wake of Nov. 13's terrorist attacks with Edith Piaf's "Hymne A L'Amour." Justin Bieber closed the show by dancing and singing "A Medley in the Rain."
The show, billed as "the world's biggest fan-voted award show," was hosted by Jennifer Lopez.
First established in 1973, the American Music Awards is one of the most important music award shows in the United States. The winners are determined by a poll of the public and viewers. Endi
