18 militants killed in Afghan crackdown operations

Xinhua, November 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Up to 18 Taliban militants have been killed in latest cleanup operations in Afghanistan, the country's Interior Ministry said on Saturday.

"In the past 24 hours, Afghan National Security Forces conducted several anti-terrorism operations in Nangarhar, Laghman, Faryab, Jawzjan, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Khost, Paktika, Paktia, Herat and Helmand provinces. As a result 18 armed insurgents were killed, five wounded and one was arrested by the ANSF," the ministry said in a statement providing daily operational updates.

The security forces also found and seized weapons, the statement added.

Earlier on Saturday, the country's defense ministry confirmed losing seven army personnel as a result of separate attacks across the country since early Friday.

The Taliban has yet to make comments.

Afghan security forces have pressed on clearing the militants in restive provinces as Taliban militants have been attempting to take territory and consolidate their positions ahead of winter in the country. Endit
