Clashes with Israeli soldiers wound 61 Palestinians in territories

Xinhua, November 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Around 61 Palestinians were injured on Friday during clashes between dozens of Palestinian protesters and Israeli soldiers in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

In the West Bank, the clashes broke out near the cities of Ramallah, Qalqilia, Bethlehem and Hebron.

Israeli soldiers fired intensive tear gas, rubber bullets and live ammunition to disperse Palestinian protesters who threw stones at them, witnesses added.

In the Gaza Strip, dozens of young men headed to the borderline area between eastern Gaza Strip and Israel, and threw stones at the Israeli army forces stationed there, according to eyewitnesses.

Israeli soldiers then fired rubber bullets and live ammunition to disperse protesters.

Gaza health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qedra told reporters that 34 Palestinians were injured, four of whom were injured by live ammunition and others injured by rubber bullets.

Meanwhile, Israeli Public Radio reported that an Israeli army force toppled a stabbing attempt in the old city of Hebron in southern West Bank, adding that the soldiers arrested a young man who tried to stab one of the soldiers in the area.

Several Palestinian factions and political powers had earlier called on the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza for a day of rage to back the Palestinian Uprising against Israel.

In the Gaza Strip, hundreds of Palestinians joined a rally that was held to back the violent confrontations between Israel and the Palestinians in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.

A wave of tension and violent confrontations have been going on since early October between the Palestinians and Israel in the Palestinian territories.

According to official figures, 91 Palestinians were killed, around 3,000 injured and more than 1,500 arrested amid the tensions.

Meanwhile, 16 Israelis were also killed and dozens wounded in a series of shooting, running cars over and stabbing attacks into Israel and the West Bank in protest to the Israeli measures against al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Endit
