Tokyo stocks close higher on late buying by institutional investors

Tokyo shares reversed morning losses to end slightly higher Friday on late buying of institutional investors.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 20.00 points, or 0.10 percent, from Thursday at 19,879.81, a three-month closing high.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 2.80 points, or 0.17 percent, higher at 1,603.18.

Gainers were led by chemicals, services and pharmaceuticals issues.

The turnover was about 2,185.7 billion yen (about 17.80 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
